/ 10The 3 weeks I spent in Cape Town were simply amazing. My days were filled teaching 2nd graders, exploring all that Cape Town has to offer, enjoying delicious food, getting to know wonderful people from around the world and embracing the South African culture.I chose to do the childcare program, and volunteered at a primary school in a neighborhood called Bo Kaap. While I witnessed and experienced many cultural differences between the American and South African schooling system, being able to teach and pass on my knowledge to 40 little second graders was one of the most gratifying things I have ever experienced. The children were absolutely amazing and I grew very close to many of them. I also became very close to the teacher I was working with and I plan on keeping in touch with her, as her dedication and love for the children truly touched my heart.
While the volunteering part of the trip exceeding my expectations in many ways, I also got to know and explore one of the most wonderful cities in the world. Cape town’s culture and heritage is unlike any other, and the possibilities are endless.
This trip really opened up my eyes to what I want to do with my life, where I want to find myself in the future, and the people I want to surround myself with. I went to change Cape Town, but Cape Town ended up changing me, sending me off with unforgettable memories and experiences of a lifetime
